1-Student Presentation Award

PURPOSE AND NATURE

 Three “CAA Best Student Presentation Award” are awarded each year during the Acoustic Week in Canada conference to recognize the quality of the work and presentation of its student members. The prize consist in a $500.00 honorarium, a certificate and a mention in the December issue of Canadian Acoustics journal as well as online announcement on CAA website and posting into the various social media of CAA (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.). The Award ceremony takes usually place during the last luncheon of the conference (Friday). The list of past recipients is also available on CAA website. Conference bursaries will also be available to those students whose papers are accepted for presentation.

ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION

To register to the competition, fill the online form here, by August 31st 2023. The eligibility criteria for this award are as follows:

  • Full-time student registered at a Canadian university;
  • Student member of the CAA;
  • Submission of a conference proceedings paper with the applicant as the first author;
  • Presentation of the paper by the student at the conference; and
  • Registered to the conference and indicate on submission that the presentation is eligible for a student award

 

EVALUATION PROCESS AND PAYMENT

At conference time, each eligible presentation is evaluated by 3 peers designated by the Session Chair in coordination with the CAA Award Coordinator. The CAA Award Coordinator forward the received comments -if any- to the enrolled candidates. The winners will automatically receive their honorarium, at the address specified during their online application. Winners are highly encouraged to attend the Award ceremony takes usually place during the last lunche on of the conference (Friday).

2-Student Travel Subsidies

PURPOSE AND NATURE

The Canadian Acoustical Association offers “Student travel subsidies” to assist CAA student members to attend its Acoustics Week in Canada annual conference.

 

ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION

Both undergraduate and graduate students (including postdocs) are eligible to receive a travel subsidy. The eligibility criteria for this subsidy are as follows:

• Full-time student registered at a Canadian university;
• Student member of the CAA;
• Distance traveled to the conference must exceed 350 km (one way);
• Submission of a conference proceedings paper with the applicant as the first author;
• Presentation of the paper by the student at the conference; and
• Registered to the conference and with online application form completed before August 1st 2023 deadline

 

PAYMENT

A payment of $500.00 (max.) will be given to each eligible student based on the actual cost of expenses (train or plane ticket, gas receipt, car rental). The maximum travel subsidy available combined for all students is $10,000.00 (as approved by CAA BoD). Subsidies are awarded on "first registered, first served" basis. Applicants should fill the online application by the the deadline submission date. The recipients will receive their subsidies, at the address specified during their online application, after sending a scanned copy of their receipts to CAA Award Coordinator.
