  • Acoustics Week in Canada 2024

    May 13, 2024 – May 17, 2024

    The joint 186th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) and 2024 Acoustics Week in Canada conference (AWC2024) will be held from May 13-17, 2024, in downtown Ottawa, Ontario.

    You are invited to be part of this five days international conference featuring the latest developments in acoustics and vibration. Ottawa is Canada’s capital, a city that reflects the country’s beauty, celebrates its diversity, embodies its spirit, and tells its stories like no other. Located at the confluence of three rivers at the foot of the rugged Canadian shield, Ottawa is home to over one million residents who are proud of their hometown and welcome people in English, French, Indigenous languages, and many more from around the world. The city’s urban landscape reveals Canada around every corner, at historic and national sites, monuments, and cultural institutions.

    Venue and Accommodation

    Plenary, technical sessions

    Plenary, technical, and workshop sessions are planned throughout the conference. Each day will begin with a keynote talk of broader interest and relevance to the acoustics community. Technical sessions are planned to cover all areas of acoustics including.

    CAA Awards Ceremony

    A Plenary Session and Awards Ceremony will be scheduled jointly by ASA and CAA. ASA and CAA ceremonies will be held consecutively.

    Registration Fees

    There will be identical discounted registration fees for members of ASA and CAA. All registration and ticket fees will be advertised and paid in USD.

    Abstract submission

    All abstracts will be submitted via the ASA submission site : https://asa2024spring.abstractcentral.com/

    Social Events

    There will be a Social on Wednesday evening. A joint reception for ASA and CAA board members will be held Sunday evening, 12 May 2024.

    ASA and AWC Conference Proceedings

    Attendees of the joint conference are invited to submit their conference proceedings to both ASA and CAA through the Proceedings of Meetings on Acoustics (POMA) and the Canadian Acoustics journal (JCAA). For the Acoustics Week in Canada conference proceeding, the manuscript is a two-page article (see English and French preview) that can be formatted using the available Microsoft Word or Latex templates and that can be submitted directly, before May 1st 2024, to the Proceedings of the Acoustics Week in Canada section. Per the agreement in place between ASA and CAA, the title of the proceeding paper must be different in both system for proper indexing and citation.

    The Acoustics Week in Canada will be held from October 3-6, 2023 in downtown Montreal, Quebec at the Plaza Centre Ville (777 BlvdRobert-BOurassa, Montréal, QC, H3C /Z7).

    The Acoustics Week in Canada 2022 will be held 28-30 September at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John's, Newfoundland.

  • Acoustics Week in Canada 2020

    October 9, 2020 – October 10, 2020

    Because of the COVID-19 situation, the Acoustics Week in Canada (AWC) originally planned for October 2020 in Sherbrooke (QC) will be postpone to AWC21 in October 2021. Nevertheless, CAA-ACA with Sherbrooke's organising committee has decided to set up a 1-day celebration on October 9, 2020 (see detailed program here).

    This online event represents a unique opportunity for students to present (live or pre-recorded) their work in a Pecha-Kucha style, and have a chance to win one of three Best Student Presentation awards. Several break-out sessions will also be organized around the usual themes according to submitted abstracts. Others sessions include an “Acoustical Gems” luncheon (alluring educational resources, laboratory demonstrations or research results), one plenary session and a session dedicated to the COVID-19 pandemic associated impacts, challenges and opportunities for the CAA-ACA community. The addition of the award ceremony and a recorded concert will make this a full day!

    To present during this free online event, exclusive to CAA registered members, all presenters are invited to submit a 250-words abstract before July 31st (extended to August 15th) directly here.

    The list of accepted abstracts will be published in the September issue of Canadian Acoustics journal, and the recorded content might be promoted on the Canadian Acoustical journal, website, and Social Media like LinkedIn and Twitter.

     

     

  • Acoustics Week in Canada 2021

    October 5, 2021 – October 7, 2021

    Aoustics Week in Canada 2021 conference will be held ONLINE given the sanitary situation.

    Three ‘half-days’ will be structured around three general themes

    • 'Acoustics and structures' -> works mostly involving room acoustics, building acoustics, vibroacoustics, ultrasound, shock and vibration,
    • 'Acoustics and living beings' ->  works mostly involving psychoacoustics, hearing, bioacoustics, musical acoustics, education in acoustics,
    • 'Acoustics and computers' -> works mostly involving computations, simulations, signal processing applied to any acoustics domain - The computation contribution should be prominent, and can be transverse to the two previous themes.

    The gather platform will be used to propose:

    • A main room in which the plenary lectures and lightning sessions will be streamed,
    • A virtual room dedicated to researchers, students and exhibitors to discuss/exchange after video presentations, including poster presentations, videos and face-to-face interactions.
    • Open spaces to discuss/exchange.

  • Acoustics Week in Canada 2018

    176th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America and the 2018 Acoustics Week in Canada meeting of the Canadian Acoustical Association, Victoria, BC, 5-9 November 2018


    ASA Fall 2018 meeting/2018 Acoustics Week in Canada



    The 176th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) will be held jointly with the Acoustics Week in Canada 2018 of the Canadian Acoustical Association (CAA) in Victoria, BC, Canada, on 5-9 November 2018.

    The 176th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America and the 2018 Acoustics Week in Canada meeting of the Canadian Acoustical Association will be organized by the Acoustical Society of America using their guidelines and procedures, while the Canadian Acoustical Association will organize some special sessions and handle its regular business and core activities, such as standards committee, student awards, etc. Blocks of rooms have been reserved at the Fairmont Empress and the Victoria Marriott Inner Harbour Hotel at discounted rates.  Please refer to the Victoria meeting website (at https://acousticalsociety.org/asa-meetings/) for the call for papers and instructions for submitting abstracts and making hotel reservations.

    The deadline for receipt of abstracts is Tuesday, 29 May 2018.

    The call for papers describes the special sessions that will be organized by the ASA Technical and Administrative Committees and the CAA and other events such as a hot topics session, short course, and tutorial lecture. CAA members who register for the conference and have a paper approved will be able to submit two-page summaries of their article for publication in the 2018 Proceedings issue of Canadian Acoustics; eligible authors will receive information on the submission process directly by e-mail in due course.

    Social events will include the Social Hours, Women in Acoustics Luncheon, the Society Luncheon and Lecture, and the Jam session.Special events include the Undergraduate Research Exposition and Early-Career Speed-Networking.

    Student events, organized by the Student Council, will include a Student Orientation, a Meet and Greet, and the Student Reception. See the Student Information section of the meeting announcement for details including information about the Students Meet Members for Lunch program.

    Funding opportunities are offered including Student Transportation Subsidies, Dependent Care Subsidies, Young Investigator Travel Grants, Early Career Travel Subsidies, and Best Paper Awards for Students and Early Career Acousticians.      

    Accompanying persons are welcome at the meeting and a program of activities will be organized.                        

    We hope that you will consider presenting a paper or attending the meeting to participate in the exchange of ideas and the latest research developments in acoustics and to meet with your colleagues in the ASA.

    All participants to this joint meeting are invited to submit a 2-pages conference proceeedings paper that will be published in Canadian Acoustics in December 2018. Authors are encouraged to use the available Microsoft™ Word or Latex templates and to submit directly there 2-pages proceedings by November 1st directly in Canadian Acoustics journal, selection the section "Proceedings of the Acoustics Week in Canada". Please note, that whatever word processor is used, all the files submitted to the Canadian Acoustics journal must be in PDF format. Please also note that all auhors are also invited to consider publishing a separate proceeding paper to POMA.

  • Acoustics Week in Canada 2016

    September 21, 2016 – September 23, 2016

    Acoustics Week in Canada (AWC16) will be chaired by Kathy Pichora-Fuller and Clair Wakefield and held at the Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver in downtown Vancouver (BC), September 21-23, 2016.

    Acoustics researchers, professionals, educators, and students are welcomed to Vancouver for three days of plenary lectures and technical sessions. The Canadian Acoustical Association Annual General Meeting will be held in conjunction with the conference, along with the Acoustical Standards Committee Meeting, the conference reception, the conference banquet, and an exhibition of acoustical equipment and services.

    Acoustics Week in Canada (AWC15) will be chaired by Dr. Sean Pecknold and Prof. Michael Kiefte and held at the Westin Nova Scotia hotel in downtown Halifax (NS), October 6-9, 2015.

    Acoustics researchers, professionals, educators, and students are welcomed to Halifax for 3 days of plenary lectures and technical sessions.   • Acoustics Week in Canada 2014

    October 7, 2014 – October 10, 2014

    For the first time, Acoustics Week In Canada will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This central location should make it easy for participants from all areas of the country to come together for 3 days of plenary lectures and technical sessions, along with the acoustical standards committee meeting, the exhibition of acoustical equipment and services, the Canadian Acoustical Association Annual General Meeting, the conference banquet and other special events. The conference will be held in the heart of Winnipeg, just off the famous corner of Portage and Main, surrounded by restaurants, theatres, and within easy walking distance of the spectacular new Canadian Museum of Human Rights, and The Forks recreation area, featuring more great shopping, restaurants, and activities. Conference participants can be among the first in Canada to view the new Canadian Museum Of Human Rights, which is scheduled to officially open in September 2014.
